1          What surface is suitable for the application of resin?

Suitable surfaces are: concrete, cementitious screeds, tongue and groove chipboard, marine ply and certain type’s of tiles.

2          How thick is the application onto an already applied suitable surface?

Our domestic systems range between 2-4mm dry film thickness.

3          How thick would both a new suitable surface and the resin be?

With a cement screed of 3 – 6mm the total thickness will be 9mm average. With plywood or chipboard the total thickness will be approximately 12mm. Straight onto concrete the thickness will be the thickness of the coating (i.e. 3mm)

4          Can resin be applied to stairs?  How?

The resin can be applied to stairs if a wooden baton or retaining strip is fitted as a stair nosing to the front of each step to enable us to flood each stair tread with resin. This would be performed by you carpenter prior to our arrival.

5          Underfloor Heating? Are your resin flooring systems suitable to go over floors with underfloor heating?

Our resin flooring systems are ideal for use with underfloor heating systems and have been used on many projects. It has been proven to work well with water based underfloor heating systems that have been installed under a concrete slab.

There is limited experience using our resin flooring systems over electric underfloor heating systems that use a thin cement screed to cover the electric heating elements. Although we believe that it will work well, and so far we have not had any reported problems, the installation of our resin flooring system over an electric underfloor heating system that uses a thin cement screed is at Customer’s own risk.

The installation of under floor heating, both electric or water systems, and covering it with chipboard, we can confirm that our flooring systems are suitable for this application.

6          What is the application and drying process?

We prepare the surface with diamond grinders and/or industrial sanders, fitted with cyclonic vacuums, to create a mechanical key, apply 1-2 coats of primer followed by the main system. The floor can be used 24 – 48 hours following the final application of resin, depending on the temperature of the area.

7          Wood skirting boards exist everywhere in the house at the moment; what is the obvious solution to get a neat edge when applying a resin floor?

The resin is applied in a liquid form. Care is taken to avoid getting resin on skirting’s during application. If inadvertent contamination occurs this can be removed with a scrapper after the resin has hardened by your decorator and the skirting’s repainted.

8          What preparation does your company require in advance of applying the resin?

We would require the new substrate to be in place prior to our arrival. All other surface preparation is completed by our selves.

9          Following the application of resin, what is its expected longevity?  How would it ever be removed?

In a domestic setting, the expected life expectancy of these systems is 20 years plus. To be removed the resin would have to be ground off.

10          If some disaster requires getting at the floor underneath the resin at some future date, how can the resin be repaired?

Either a localized patch repair or if it is a small room it is usually more cost effective to recoat the room.

11        What is the expected application date following any order?

Average Lead time is 3-4 weeks following the order

12        What is the anticipated cost per Square Meter?

This can vary due to a number of factors; colour, thickness, area, substrate condition and distance from our office. We are not trying to be vague; the cost per m2 really does depend on the individual job.

13        How long does an application take?

Depending on the complexity and size of the project, installation can take between 1-4 days.

14        Is the product toxic on application, i.e. when still fluid?

The materials we use are normally solvent free epoxy resins so there is very little smell, fumes or risks associated with their application, with normal precautions. All of our quotes come with full risk assessments.

15        What colours are available?

We can install a resin floor in almost any colour. We have a range of standard colours and non-standard colours available for viewing on our Colour Chart Page. If the colour you would like is not on that page we can have a colour specially blended to match as close as practicable any colour sample that you provide. Non-standard and specially blended colours are more expensive than standard colours, but create a more individual floor.

16        Will I have to vacate my property while the new floor is installed?

This is entirely up to you and dependant on the size of the project. For small projects of 1 or 2 rooms, we can install the floor with minimum disruption to you. The only noise generated during our works is the initial preparation of the substrate.

For larger projects we can stagger the works, over several visits, to always allow egress to important household areas. This can, however, impact on the overall cost of the project.

17        Are you able to remove our furniture before you start your works?

We are not able to remove your furnishings before our works commence. Any items that we would have to move would not be covered for insurance purposes and we would not be able to reimburse you for any damaged items. You would need to arrange to have theses items removed before our works commence. If not removed before our arrival, we will not be able to start our works and may have to charge you for remobilisation on a new date.

18        The area I want coated is quite small. What is the smallest area that you will put down your flooring on?

We will apply our flooring to any size area. The smallest area we have applied our floor coatings to is 1.5m2. The average domestic floor area is around 40m2, although there have been many domestic project with areas less or greater than this. Please bear in mind that coating very small areas can put the cost per square meter up considerably in relation to larger projects.
